lex verticillata 'Jim Dandy', commonly known as the Jim Dandy Winterberry, is a compact, deciduous male holly cultivar grown almost exclusively as a pollinator for early-flowering female winterberries.

Because it is a male plant, it does not produce the signature red berries itself. Instead, it produces inconspicuous, pollen-rich white flowers in late spring or early summer. This pollen fertilizes nearby female plants, allowing them to produce abundant winter fruit. 

One 'Jim Dandy' can effectively pollinate 6-10 female plants and should be planted within 50 feet of the female winterberries.

This is a slow-growing, dwarf shrub that typeically reaches 3-6' tall and 4-8' wide.  It prefers moist, highly acidic, organic soils and has an excellen tolerance for poorly drained, boggy, or swampy areas and can be a popular choice for rain gardens.

It thrives in full sun to partial shade.
