Henry's Garnet Virginia Sweetspire is a tough, multi-season native deciduous shrub that is known for its fragrant summer blooms, and brilliant red-purple fall foliage.

It grows 3-5' tall, and spreads 4-6' wide in a graceful, rounded, arching habit.  The flowers produce  sweet-smelling, tiny white flowers on 3-6 inch drooping spikes in the late spring to early summer.

Does well in full sun to partial shade, while full sun gives you the best flowers and fall foliage.

Prefers moist, rich, slightly acidic soils, but will easily adapt to average, clay, or very wet boggy conditions once the shrub is established.

Host plant for the American Holly Azure and is an important nectar source for native bees.
