Bushy St. John’s Wort is a native shrub  growing up to 7 feet tall and 6 feet wide. It is native to eastern USA and west to Texas and occurs on acidic soils in moist and wet conditions, including streams, ponds, lake banks, seepage slopes, and wet meadows.

The clusters of yellow flowers occur in summer and the leaves are 2-3 inch lance-shaped and green.

This shrub blooms on new growth and can be pruned in the early spring. Easily grown in average well-drained moist garden soil in full sun to partial shade.

Plant in groups, shrub borders, foundations or as a hedge. Works great in a native/pollinator garden or on slopes or rock gardens or rain gardens. It is very adaptable.

Host plant for several butterfly and moth species, including the Gray Hairstreak butterfly and the Wavy-lined Emerald moth, the Scalloped Moth and various beetles.
