Appalachian Sedge- is a textural phenomenon in the garden landscape. It has a very attractive hair-like foliage that moves and flows like water. This Sedge thrives in almost all growing conditions except those that are poorly drained. These plants are particularly valuable for their ability to flourish in difficult dry shaded sites and are useful as a groundcover or lawn substitute for a shade garden. This Sedge is a great native substitute for the popular non-native groundcovers Liriope muscari and Ophiopogon japonicus.

Host plant for Skipper and Satyr butterflies and the seeds are relished by birds and turtles.
